Intruders have entered your home. They are everywhere swarming in the air and crawling on the floor. You start to get the creepy crawlies. You know what they are. You've dreaded that one day it would happen to you. Termites.
This is the nightmare hundreds of homeowners face every year-termite infestation. And they desperately want to rid their homes of these destructive pests. They want quick, immediate, and lasting results.
Termites if left to their own devices will feast on your home until there is nothing left. Leaving them alone is not an option. Figuring out how to kill termites should be your primary concern.
Termite treatment is not a job for you-the homeowner. It is a job for skilled professionals who have access to specialized equipment such as large-capacity tanks, soil treatment rods, pumps or drills. And because pesticides known as termiticides must be injected into the ground, special licenses need to be obtained.
Local and online retailers sell over the counter termite treatments but they will not eradicate your termite infestation problem. In the long run, you will end up calling a professional exterminator to help you control and eliminate your termite infestation. Which will cost you more than, if you would have sought professional help from the beginning.
Termite treatment options
There are two general categories of termite treatment-baits and liquids. Their objective is to provide a chemical barrier that prohibits termites from entering the home.
Termite liquid treatments
If your aim is to kill termites rather than repel them, you'll want to use some of the newer treatment options like Temidor® (fipronil), Premise® (imidacloprid), or Phantom® (chlorfenapyr).
How does it work?
Soil around your home is treated with liquid termiticides. Termites that enter the treatment zone are killed.
The newer liquid products are more reliable in their ability to eradicate termite infestation in the first treatment. While former treatments repelled termites rather than kill them.
A combination of repellent and non- repellent treatment can be most effective in warding off new termite invaders as well as killing existing ones.
Termite bait treatment
Slow acting poison is mixed with palatable food for termite consumption. The baits are placed below ground in a cylindrical plastic station. Advancing termites eat the bait and share it with their comrades which results in the reduction of termite numbers.
It is up to you the homeowner whether you want to combine a liquid treatment with a bait treatment. In order to make the best decision for your situation compare all treatment options, get several estimates from licensed professionals, and consider your budget. By doing so you will find the best solution to help you kill your termite intruders.
